About Burt’s Bees
Burt’s Bees, a beloved brand known for its commitment to natural ingredients and environmental sustainability, has a fascinating origin story that began with the meeting of two individuals from vastly different backgrounds.
Burt Shavitz, a former photojournalist from Manhattan, and Roxanne Quimby, an artist living in San Francisco, both sought refuge from the hustle and bustle of city life and eventually found themselves in the pristine wilderness of Maine.
There, Burt became the local “bee man,” selling honey to make a living. When he met Roxanne, he shared his knowledge of bees, and together they experimented with using surplus beeswax to make candles and lip balm.
This led to the founding of Burt’s Bees, a brand that values the importance of staying connected to nature and is as compelling today as it was back then.
Roxanne and Burt’s commitment to the environment extended beyond their business, with Roxanne dedicating her wealth to preserving wild spaces and creating a philanthropic foundation. Burt’s simple life in his 300-square-foot cabin, surrounded by nature and his beloved golden retrievers, was a testament to the benefits of simple living. After his death, his cabin was moved to the Burt’s Bees headquarters, serving as a reminder of the brand’s values and the importance of respecting and preserving nature.

These two ingredients are allergens. Allergens are commonly found in many lotions and moisturizers. While they are not dangerous per se, they can cause issues for people with sensitive skin, eczema, or psoriasis conditions. My Honest Review of Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
As someone who values natural and non-toxic ingredients, I made the decision to switch from O’Keefe’s lip balm to Burt’s Bees a couple of years ago. I was concerned about the potential carcinogenic ingredients, petrolatum and hydrogenated polyisobutene, in O’Keefe’s. And I was tired of constantly reapplying lip balm during the day due to dryness.
Texture
After putting it to the test, I can say that Burt’s Bees has been a game changer for me. The texture is perfect – not too greasy, it quickly settles into the skin and keeps my lips moisturized for hours. The finish is matte. Although I do have to reapply a few times a day, especially after eating or brushing my teeth.
It’s a life saver in winter when you get sick. It always heals my sore, red, chapped, peeling lips.
Flavor
The original lip balm has a peppermint flavor and it gives a tingly minty cool feeling when applied. But you can easily order other flavors like vanilla or honey. From my experience, it’s always best to buy the 2 packs so you can keep one in your bag and one at home at all times.
Downsides
The only downside I’ve observed is that the balm can get quite soft in warm weather. And I do go through it quite rapidly.
Conclusion
After I tried Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, I never used another one. Burt’s Bees lip balm has been a game changer for me! With its perfect texture, natural ingredients, and delicious minty flavor, it has kept my lips moisturized and soft all year round. It’s a true life saver in the winter and has healed my sore, chapped lips in no time. I’m so glad I made the switch from petroleum-based products and found a brand that aligns with my values of using non-toxic and eco-friendly ingredients.
I highly recommend Burt’s Bees to anyone who wants to keep their lips healthy and hydrated while also supporting a socially and environmentally conscious company.
